US Airways adds Charlotte-Europe flights

US Airways Group Inc. will add nonstop service this spring from Charlotte to Dublin, Ireland, and Madrid, Spain.

Service to Madrid runs May 4 and through Oct. 29 on Boeing aircraft with seating for 204.
Dublin service is scheduled for May 6 through Sept. 30 on Boeing planes with seating for 176.
“We’re delighted to offer our customers throughout the southeastern and western United States another convenient option for traveling to two of our most popular destinations in Europe,” says Andrew Nocella, US Airways senior vice president for marketing and planning.

“This announcement of nonstop service to two of Europe’s most popular destinations from Charlotte is great news for the community and reaffirms the strength of Charlotte/Douglas International Airport as an emerging international gateway,” says Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx.

In December, the airline initiated service to South America from Charlotte with daily nonstop flights to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

US Airways offers nonstop service from its Charlotte hub to London’s Gatwick Airport, Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Rome and Frankfurt, Germany. The Tempe, Ariz.-based carrier (NYSE:LCC) also has code-share agreements with Star Alliance carrier Lufthansa on service to Munich from Charlotte. Such pacts allow airlines to coordinate schedules and reservation systems so customers can book travel on multiple airlines in one transaction.

US Airways operates 3,100 flights per day to more than 200 destinations in the Americas, Middle East and Europe.Read more: US Airways adds Charlotte-Europe flights - Charlotte Business Journal
